Abstract
The subsection deals with the main activities of a teacher in a distance learning system. The authors focus on methodological, organisational and managerial, psychological and pedagogical, teaching and research activities. Particular emphasis is placed on the role
of information and communication technologies and the specifics of interaction with students in the online environment. The requirements for teacher qualifications and the need to unify approaches to their training are described. It is concluded that the teacher plays a key role in ensuring the quality of distance learning.
